#125: A Brussels Notes Advent Calendar
This is probably a bad idea, but here goes...
Technically, the advent season does not officially start until this coming Sunday. Strictly speaking, there is also in our household an ómerta on anything Christmas-related until St Nicholas has been and gone on 6 December.
But at Brussels Notes HQ I have decided to get the drop on the holiday season, by doing something reckless, crazy even (given the usual frequency of my output), but at the very least creatively challenging.
Starting tomorrow - Tuesday 25 November - and running every weekday from now until 19 December, this newsletter will become its own kind of advent calendar of a kind, with me sending a short missive each morning from one of Brussels’ 19 municipal communes. As this newsletter’s tagline goes, these will be short observations on life in Brussels, trying to capture the feel of each of these areas, and/or my relationship with them.
And once we’ve gotten through all 19 - tips on what to visit in Auderghem, Watermael and Woluwe St-Pierre are still welcome - we’ll wrap up the festive season with the publication of my official and entirely subjective best-to-worst rankings of Brussels’ communes.
If that sounds like too much Brussels Notes for you, abandon ship now! For the rest of you, strap in for a whirlwind seasonal trip through everything* Brussels has to offer.
(*Disclaimer - there are going to be a lot of cafés featured…).

Watermael Boitsfort:
Le Club It's an unexceptional InterBrew pub, but I love the big VORST ceramic sign on the building. (yes in Boitsfort)

Silex Bar has a good beer selection ( Drink Drink, La Source, de Dochter van Korenaar etc) and board games.

THey would think twice before trying that with me - I am a quasi regular
